One of the results of the Second World War was the Japan’s Silk Stocking industry was almost destroyed. Nylon stocking filled the gap left in the marked, which resulted in record sales. In the 1960s tights/pantyhose became the most sort after leg covering as they were both cheep and comfortable.
Stockings sales were in steep decline. But thins are always changing and Stockings may be the hottest leg covering for the 21st Century. It would appear that stockings are fast become as popular as tights. Stockings today come in many different sizes and styles: from ordinary ankle stocking, to knee length to just above the knee and hold-ups. The material varies from silk, nylon, lycra, and wools of various types and colours.
Stockings can be functional by protecting legs from the elements, especially in the winter. They can also create an image: the schoolgirl look, the sexy look. Silk stockings and nylon stockings can create any image you want from sexy to dramatic, with eye catching colours and patterns. For some very good example of these styles
Black opaque stockings have always been a staple of every girl's wardrobe but other colours such as reds are also very popular at the moment. Colourful stockings with stripes are fun, and sexy. These are certainly a very striking fashion statement
TIPS
You can never be too small or to tall for todays tights and stocking. Remember, in most cases, sizing is volumetric. What that means is that if you are very slim they will come up longer, while if you're a bit wider than average you'll find they are a little bit shorter to allow for widthways stretch. If you prefer hold-ups the same rules apply.
