Denier There are definitions of a denier as a unit of measure that indicates the weight of silk, rayon or nylon thread. The denier scale ranges from 7 to 80 denier, with smaller numbers indicating finer yarn and higher numbers denoting heavier thread that will be used to make stronger fabrics. From the Latin Denarius
The ofther definitions of Denier is that it is a unit of weight - a denier equals the weight in grams of 9,000 metres of yarn (decitex or 'dtex' being the metric equivalent = 10,000 metres of yarn), and can be any value (theoretically) from 1 to infinity (yarns of less than 1 denier are usually considered 'microfibres') and contrary to common misconception, has nothing to do with its opacity.
